If Rosa was given help that she clearly needs in dealing with a child, it could very well be a normal love. But until she can become well, it'd be better for Maria's safety to face the truth. Even broken, it's better to be alive, because then there is still a chance for change. To continue with abuse, however, and chances of a good change go down, if not disappear completely.
