It's my nature, so to speak. If mystery and fantasy have one thing in common, it's that they spark curiosity. Mystery provokes someone to the truth, like you. Fantasy provokes people into thinking about many things, the bounds and limitations of it, what it can grant, the reality of such a thing existing.

So it's natural for a witch. You could call it another one of those things all witches have.

Heh. There's another being that could do such a thing. A writer, of both fantasy and mystery, could do the same thing if they want.

I'm not a writer, though. A storyteller weaves their tale for the enjoyment of others. If you could call Rokkenjima a crafted story and me the one with the pen, I can assure you that I wouldn't write for that reason.

Sometimes it's enjoyment. Sometimes it's just to convince people to think of something or think of a certain way.

A story to convince people to believe in witches, it could be quite popular with enough skill.

Very true... after all, there's a fair share of textbooks and nonfiction that aren't for enjoyment, but learning and enlightenment, and some fiction can provide the same thing.

In which case, you wouldn't have to need to write for entertainment, but to cause that sort of affect.

You deny me as a witch, yet you seem to have a good understanding of how certain kinds of magic are crafted.

... oh well. I suppose it's not any new theory. But I won't write to prove myself, that's boring, and anyone can pick up a fantasy novel and close it, knowing it never really happened! I'll prove myself through my actions. A direct method is favorable for this kind of situation.

It probably will be. I don't like giving out the full deduction until I have the full story, after all.

There's nothing wrong with over the top. [ cackle! ] Sometimes that's a good method to hide a more subtle message.

... Naturally. Sure, you could work out bits and pieces along the way, but there's always a chance that something will happen by the end that cracks your theory into tiny pieces.

That's part of it. Some is just so over the top, no one notices the small stuff. And sometimes the small stuff is what makes it over the top.

Or something at the end provides the piece that can put all the pieces together.

It's important to hook a reader that way. It gives incentive to read it again and better understand the novel-- how does the saying go? You should read a book as many times as it has pages to really understand it?

There is always a conclusion on the surface. Be it 'a witch did it' or a simplified version of the murder.

But I don't want the surface. I want the whole thing, surface, bottom, and all in between.

Isn't that the truth you'd want to be found? To be beaten by anything else would be an insult, wouldn't it?

Exceptional deduction. No matter the means, Anti-Mystery or Anti-Fantasy, if I take someone on, I expect either true victory or defeat with no pity, no mercy, nothing overlooked! If I must be driven into check, I want my opponent to do so skillfully! To turn the chessboard over a hundred-- no, a thousand times, to read my moves and know why they were made! Yes, the who and how is easy and anyone could find that with such lenient rules! 'Why dunnit' is the hardest part!

To be defeated and killed with anything less would be a shame to all my predecessors, and to my game! But don't you dare take that as me begging for loss or defeat!

I doubt you'd ever beg for defeat. The motivation is often the hardest thing to deduce, unless it's painfully obvious. And even then, sometimes that can be a distraction from the real motivation.

I won't consider it a true victory unless I can find out that whole truth, the how, and the why. For both you and the murderer.

Then your true victory will be hard to pursue. Even I cannot guarantee all the answers lie within the games I've played so far. Never forget you're playing with a witch, and we fight with dirty tricks even the gods aren't above using. How fun, to fight again with someone who wishes to prove my innocence!

... So don't waste any time with that homework of yours. Come and find me when you think you know the answer. You're making me eager to hand over the third and fourth pieces, but I won't give them to you if you don't win! [ cackle! ]

Of course they do. [Chuckles.] Though the last god I met played a very dirty trick, so no one would realize what he was really doing so easily, but examining those tricks will help in revealing that full truth I aim to get. Even if I have to play longer than your other opponents.

I never waste time when it comes to a mystery. I'll definitely come find you when I know the full trick.

Very committed words, but we're still at the beginning... kihi. At least my stay here will never be boring. It'll be fun, thinking up all the tricks I could do, all the magic I could use to turn the world upside-down. So many benefits to being in a world without that magic-resistant toxin.
