[The note ends with some instructions on how to find its writer. If you choose to follow them you’ll come across a not overly happy demon who isn’t wet, but shivering and soaked – there’s only so much wings can do as a shield against the rain :(]

That's the part where prejudice kicks in. Any kind that preys on humans has to be evil. It makes hating them easier.

[Blinks. How can one be so naive and survive?] Imagine the worst place you can possible think of. Then think it a hundred times worse.

Oh, is that it? So it's like the ghost thing. People only notice the bad ones because they're the only ones to attack people.

[By being a freak of nature.] ....that's not possible. [A rather...flat, emotionless tone of voice.] I can imagine the worst possible place and nothing can beat it. Even searing, consuming pain is paradise in comparison.

Ghosts?

See? Hell is like that, only 'worse'. It's the essence of the word, 'a place where you'd never ever want to be'. And there's a lot of things that can be worse than searing, all-consuming pain. [Like knowing the truth, for example.]

Yeah. For a while, people didn't believe in ghosts because portals were temporary and infrequent. Now with a stabilized portal in existence, there's too many ghosts in one area to possibly be denied, but people only notice the bad ones. The good ones don't draw attention. So people think they're bad.

Exactly. I'd prefer pain to that 'Hell.' A place where you never want to be, because it's a place where there is nothing. And you know there is nothing.

Most people don't believe in the existence of 'real' demons, either. That quickly changes once they meet one of us, though. And I can't claim that we have a lot of good guys, so they have all the right reasons to be wary of us.

Yes, something like that. Though I'd prefer solitude over too much attention. [lets out a low laugh] Anyway, demons or devils are the beings that are believed to live in that place and keep trying to drag others down there as well.

[Shakes her head.] When I say nothing, I mean nothing. No feeling, no senses, there's absolutely nothing except a dim awareness of all that you lost. It wouldn't be as bad if there were demons...
